The Greenfield Union School District is committed to providing a safe and positive work environment in which all district employees are guaranteed full and equal access to employment opportunities. Employees shall be protected from harassment, intimidation, retaliation, and any form of retribution for asserting their rights under applicable law. For the purposes of this policy and the accompanying administrative regulation, the term “employee” includes interns, volunteers, contractors, job applicants, and all individuals who have an employment relationship with the District.
No employee shall be subjected to discrimination or harassment by any coworker, supervisor, manager, or other individual with whom the employee interacts in the course of employment. This protection applies to discrimination or harassment based on one or more actual or perceived protected characteristics, including, but not limited to: race or ethnicity, ancestry, color, ethnic group identification, nationality, national origin, immigration status, sex, sexual orientation, sex stereotypes, gender, gender identity, gender expression, religion, religious creed, age, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, false pregnancy, childbirth, termination of pregnancy or related conditions and recovery, reproductive health decision-making, breastfeeding or related medical conditions, parental status, marital status, family status, or association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.
In accordance with state law, the District shall not inquire into or discriminate against any employee based on immigration status, unless such inquiry is clearly and convincingly necessary to comply with federal immigration laws.
Furthermore, unless otherwise required by law, the District shall not discriminate against any employee with respect to the terms or conditions of employment, or otherwise impose disciplinary action, including termination, based on the employee’s use of cannabis outside of work and away from the workplace, or based on a drug screening result indicating the presence of nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites in the employee’s hair, blood, urine, or other bodily fluid. Notwithstanding the above, the District retains the right to maintain a drug-free workplace and to prohibit employees from possessing, being under the influence of, or using cannabis while on duty or on District premises.
