Employee Leaves

The Greenfield Union School District is committed to supporting our staff by providing both paid and unpaid leaves of absence. These leaves are granted in alignment with state and federal laws, board policies and  and applicable collective bargaining agreements

District employees have the right to request various types of leave as authorized by law and specific labor contracts. These include, but are not limited to:

  1. Health & Medical: Personal illness/injury, family care/medical leave, industrial (work-related) accidents, disability leave, and bereavement.

  2. Family Support: Maternity, parental leave, and reproductive loss leave.

  3. Professional Growth: Sabbaticals (for job-related study or training) and attendance at work-related meetings or staff development.

  4. Personal & Civic: Personal necessity/emergencies, military service, and compulsory leave.

  5. Time Off: Vacations for classified and certificated management staff (as applicable).

With Board approval, employees may take an unpaid, long-term leave of absence for up to one school year. Employees are reminded that seniority and service credits may not accrue during unpaid long-term leaves.

Management and supervisory staff who are not covered by a standard collective bargaining agreement are generally entitled to the same leave provisions as the bargaining employees in their respective categories (certificated or classified), unless otherwise specified in their individual contracts, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), or law.

Employees who need further assistance or information regarding Leave should contact the Personnel Department:
