In Observance of the Juneteenth Federal Holiday, the GFUSD office and all summer school operations will be closed on Monday, June 19th.
What is Juneteenth?
The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on Jan. 1st 1863, however, Juneteenth, marks a day in history, June 19th 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take over the state and make sure all enslaved people were free in that state.
Today, Juneteenth celebrates the end to slavery in the United States.
On September 29, 2022, Governor Newsom signed AB-1655, adding this to the list of state holidays in the Education Code.
