Credential Maintenance Responsibilities

All certified and licensed staff members are personally responsible for maintaining valid, current credentials required for their position and must ensure their license or credential is renewed in a timely fashion to prevent expiration. The Personnel Department provides support, but tracking and completing renewal requirements remains the individual employee's legal and professional responsibility.

Employees must regularly review the expiration date on their teaching credential, professional license, or permit, rather than relying solely on automated reminder notices. All required continuing education units (CEUs), coursework, clear-credential requirements, or fitness-for-duty renewals should be completed well in advance of the expiration deadline. Renewal applications should be submitted to the state licensing agency at least 60 to 90 days prior to expiration to allow for agency processing delays. Once renewed, employees must immediately submit a copy of their updated credential or registration confirmation to the Personnel Department.

Under state law and district policy, individuals without valid credentials cannot remain in paid active status or serve in credentialed roles. A lapsed credential may result in an immediate lapse in employment and suspension without pay until full, active status is restored and verified by the Personnel Department.
